Bon Festival 2
Bon festival in Japan
~Big summer holiday!!~
Hi. I’m Yukako who lives in the northern part of Europe, and teaches and tells people about Japanese traditional culture such as tea ceremony, kimono, etc. offline and online.
In other article, I might have explained a spiritual side of the bon festival in Japan. Though, this period is a big vacation time for most Japanese who have only a few chances to have holidays throughout the year, which is pretty pity… Anyways, many companies take holidays this period called “Obon vacation” as their summer holidays. That’s why even Japanese salary men/women can take holidays this time!
Many people go back their home town, but some of them who are not interested in such aBuddhist culture go off to travel! So, it also has the air of a national holiday. They travel around the country or abroad, so most places are pretty packed and price is high!! If you want to visit Japan, I recommend you to avoid this period. I believe that the price for the air plane is also expensive. The Obon around August 15th is just a summer vacation for them, though most people throughout the country maintain the tradition of visiting family graves, especially young people who usually live alone.
If you have a business with a Japanese company, you may already have received such a notice which says “our company will be closed from August 13 to 17th for the mid-summer vacation.” This is because of the bon festival! So, if you want to avoid any delays in the processing, I advise you to take an action before the Bon festival!
